First edition of the second book in the Madeline series, which went on to win the Caldecott Medal. Thin quarto, original cloth. Boldly signed by Ludwig Bemelmans on the half-title page. Near fine in a very good dust jacket with a few small closed tears. Rare and desirable signed.
It took Ludwig Bemelmans years to think of Madeline's next adventure after the 1939 original Madeline, but he did it, and the result was Madeline's Rescue, winner of the 1954 Caldecott Medal.
