Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “For Sylvia Schulman with my best wishes Oscar Hammerstein.” Near fine in a very good dust jacket with chipping to the crown and foot of the spine. American librettist, theatrical producer, and theatre director Oscar Hammerstein II is best known for his collaborations with Richard Rodgers, as the duo Rodgers and Hammerstein, whose collaborations include Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. Hammerstein's Lyrics is a collection of his own favorite lyrics over the past quarter of a century with a special section, which was Mr. Hammerstein's own idea, on writing the words for music.
