Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13; Signed by Jim Lovell, Tom Hanks, Fred Haise and seven members of NASA and Apollo 13
First edition of this work, the basis of the 1995 film adaptation Apollo 13, directed by Ron Howard, starring Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Ed Harris, and Gary Sinise. Octavo, original publisher's half cloth, illustrated endpapers, illustrated with black and white photographs. Boldly signed by Tom Hanks on the title page and inscribed by Jim Lovell, Apollo 13 commander, "To Steve Byer Best Wishes Jim Lovell." Additionally signed by eight NASA and Apollo 13 members on the title page and facing page: Fred Haise -- lunar module pilot; John Aaron -- electrical and environmental command officer (EECOM); Jim Kelly -- electrical power system specialist (CSM EPS);  Bill Peters -- telemetry, electrical, EVA mobility unit officer (TELMU); Bill Reeves -- lunar mobility EPS (LM EPS); Tom Hanchett -- instruments and communications officer (INCO); Bill Weppner -- guidance, navigation and control officer (GNC propulsion); Dee O'Hara (first astronauts' nurse). Fine in a fine dust jacket. Accompanied by a flyer for the Tulsa Air and Space Museum Apollo 13 Celebration and eight matte photographs of each NASA and Apollo 13 member as they are signing the book laid in. An exceptional collection of signatures, most likely unique.
Out of the seven Apollo expeditions to land on the moon, six of the efforts succeeded outstandingly and one failed. Lost Moon is the story of the failure and the incredible heroism of the three astronauts who brought their crippled vehicle back to earth. This account--written by Jim Lovell, commander of the mission, and his talented coauthor, Jeffrey Kluger--captures the high drama of that unique event and is told in the vernacular of the men in the sky and on the ground who masterminded this triumph of heroism, intellectual brilliance, and raw courage.
