First complete edition of Blake’s great prophetic poem containing the text of Jerusalem in letterpress. Small quarto, original cloth, top edge gilt, illustrated with 100 plates, tissue-guarded frontispiece in collotype. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Foreword by Geoffrey Keynes. Uncommon in this condition.
Jerusalem, subtitled The Emanation of the Giant Albion , is the final, longest and greatest in scope of Blake's prophetic works. Etched in handwriting, accompanied by small sketches, marginal figures and huge full-plate illustrations, it has been described as "visionary theatre". The poet himself believed it was his masterpiece.
