Charlotte Brontë was an English novelist and poet, the eldest of the three Brontë sisters who survived into adulthood and whose novels have become classics of English literature. She first published her works under the pen name Currer Bell, including her best known novel, 'Jane Eyre,' which revolutionized prose fiction through its use of first person to provide intimate knowledge about the protagonist's private consiousness. Wuthering Heights (1847) by Emily Brontë is a dark and emotionally charged Gothic novel set against the stark, windswept Yorkshire moors, where passion and vengeance shape the fates of two intertwined families. At its center is the fierce and destructive bond between the orphaned Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, a love that defies social convention yet collapses under pride, class ambition, and betrayal. Heathcliff’s subsequent quest for retribution unleashes years of cruelty that entangle the next generation in a legacy of resentment and longing.
