American journalist David Douglas Duncan has influenced the photography of the 20th century with his trademark dramatic combat photographs. His photos during WWII were thought so impressive that after the war he was hired by Life to join their staff. Later, in the Vietnam War, Duncan compiled two additional books, I Protest! (1968) and War Without Heroes (1970), which Duncan used to challenged the U.S. government's handling of the war.
