Arnold Hermann Ludwig was a German historian whose writing is reflected of his multi-interdisciplinary education at the University of Göttingen, where he studied philosophy, theology, and history. His fresh perspective saw history from an economic standpoint, rather than solely political, and he recorded the financial systems of the Old Word. In 1787 he was appointed, a professor of philosophy, and then of history, at Göttingen where he became renowned as a successful German scholar. He was subsequently presented with the awards Aulic Councillor and privy councilor. In 1822, he was elected a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
