Octavo, bound in full crushed levant emerald green morocco by Morrell with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling and fleuron cornerpeices to the front and rear panels, gilt turn-ins and inner dentelles, top edge gilt, with sixty-four full-page illustrations by J.H.F. Bacon, Byam Shaw and many others. In good condition.
In this evocatively illustrated collection of 16 stories, Maude Ebbutt retells famed legends from every part of the British Isles while tracing their origins and evolutions. The heroic characters featured include Beowulf, Robin Hood, Sir Gawayne, Hereward the Wake, William of Cloudslee, and Black Colin of Loch Awe.
