Photograph of Mount Rushmore; Lengthily Inscribed by Gutzon Borglum
Large photograph of a partially completed Mount Rushmore. Boldly inscribed by Gutzon Borglum to New York financier William W. Fuller, it reads, "Greetings from our Gods in the mountains where they will watch our passing--and in time they alone--I fear will tell what manner of men we were-- Christmas wishes to you all from all the Borglums." The photograph measures 13.5 inches by 16 inches. Double matted and framed. The entire piece measures  inches by inches.
Sculptor Gutzon Borglum designed and oversaw the execution of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial from 1927 to 1941 with the assistance of his son, Lincoln Borglum. Conceived by South Dakota historian Doane Robinson, the 60-foot sculpture was initially intended to promote tourism in the Black Hills Region of South Dakota.
