Isaac Asimov (1920–1992) was a prolific American writer and biochemist whose work profoundly shaped modern science fiction and popular science writing. Best known for the Foundation series, the Robot stories, and the formulation of the Three Laws of Robotics, Asimov combined speculative imagination with a rationalist, scientific worldview that emphasized systems, ethics, and long-term social development. Foundation’s Edge (1982) is a significant late entry in Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series, notable for reinvigorating the saga after a long hiatus and for reworking its philosophical foundations. Foundation’s Edge was awarded the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 1983.
