William Harris writes in his introduction, “I believe that Forest, Lake, and River will now, and in the years to come, be a marvel of beauty and skill to the angling fraternity, a high landmark in book work, and a testimonial to its author’s artistic nature and practical appreciation of the needs of his brother anglers when in pursuit of their favorite pastime.” The illustrations include a frontispiece portrait of Johnson in Volume II, three magnificent color lithographs by A.D. Turner, four color plates of flies and lures, 49 plates of fish and 19 of views.
