Boldly signed by Earl Warren in ink beneath the finely engraved bust portrait, which is captioned with his name and bears the imprint of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Earl Warren (1891 to 1974) was the fourteenth Chief Justice of the United States, presiding over the Supreme Court from 1953 to 1969 in one of the most consequential eras in its history. The Warren Court transformed American life through landmark rulings, most famously Brown v. Board of Education, which declared racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional, along with decisions expanding the rights of the accused, establishing the principle of one person one vote, and broadening civil liberties. Before joining the Court, Warren served three terms as Governor of California and was the Republican nominee for Vice President in 1948, and he later chaired the Warren Commission that investigated the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
