Rare signed philosophical and historical treatise tracing the ‘Sitz-im-Leben’ or sociological setting of the Jewish people in exile. Ten pages, type-written with corrections and revisions in Ben-Gurion’s hand throughout. Dated January 27, 1958.  A vision for the newly founded modern state of Israel, the manuscript references Biblical and Rabbinical texts in addition to the Law of Return, passed on July 5, 1950 which gave the Jewish people the right to gain Israeli citizenship. The text also includes specific legislation including the State Education Act. A rare piece of Jewish history.

Israel’s founding father, David Ben-Gurion, served as the first Prime Minister of Israel and is credited with establishing the nation’s first form of government. He contributed to and was the first to sign the Israeli Declaration of Independence on May 14th, 1948, stating that the new nation would "uphold the full social and political equality of all its citizens, without distinction of religion, race, or sex.” The eighth government of Israel was formed by Ben-Gurion on January 7th, 1958 and included cabinet members Golda Meir, Mordechai Bentov, and Zalman Aran. It collapsed the following year directly after Ben Gurion announced his resignation following a disagreement among cabinet members regarding an arms deal with West Germany.
