First edition. Octavo, original wrappers as issued. Inscribed by the author to Henry Kissinger in Chinese on the front free endpaper. The English translation reads, “To Dr. Henry A. Kissinger, Sun Jiazheng, January 26 2008 in New York.” Sun Jiazheng was a senior People’s Republic of China Minister of Culture from 1998-2008. An account of Sun Jiazheng’s 2005 meeting with Kissinger to discuss Sino-American interactions is the first chapter of the book. Kissinger, of course, was instrumental in the opening of relations between the United States and The People’s Republic of China in the early 1970s as President Richard Nixon’s celebrated foreign policy guru. The project included celebrated secret meetings between Kissinger and Chinese officials to the lay groundwork for the opening. Kissinger would later write a well-regarded work “On China.” A nice association.

The book recounts Sun Jiazheng associations with foreign dignitaries and publics in his role as the nation's cultural ambassador during a busy decade of increasing Chinese prominence on the world stage.
