"To my friends, Gloria & Jim Jones with admiration and affection": First Edition of Thomas Berger's Crazy in Berlin; Inscribed by Him to Fellow Writer James Jones
First edition of Berger's first book. Octavo, original cloth. Association copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper to fellow author James 'Jim' Jones and his wife Gloria, "To my friends, Gloria & Jim Jones with admiration and affection Thomas Berger Paris 13 Oct 65." There is a second, longer note by Berger on the half-title, that reads "Twenty-nine years ago, the first time I touched this copy of Crazy in Berlin, I was a guest in James Jones's home in Paris, drinking 50-year-old armagnac and smoking a Montecristo Numero Tres, the legendary pre-Castro cigar, both provided by my generous host Thomas Berger Grand View-on-Hudson 13 August 1994." Very good in a very good first state dust jacket. Jacket design by Sydney Butchkes. An exceptional association copy, connecting two of the premier chroniclers of the mid-twentieth century.
"With this novel, Berger gains a solid place in contemporary fiction" (Saturday Review).
