"I did not know you were a great chess fan": First Edition of Bobby Fischer’s Games of Chess; with a rare autograph letter signed by Him

First British edition of the only book ever written entirely by Bobby Fischer. Octavo, original green cloth, illustrated, with a paper clipping and photograph of Fischer adhered to the third free endpaper. In fine condition. Accompanied by an autograph letter signed by Fischer and affixed to the verso of the front free endpaper. Octavo, one page, the letter reads in full, "Dear Miss Benedict. Thank you very much for your kind gift. Why you have given it to me I do not know. I did not know you were a great chess fan. Respectfully yours Bobby Fischer." Fischer added his first name "Bob" to the verso of the letter. In fine condition with mail folds. Letters from Fischer are rare.

This is the only book ever authored entirely by Bobby Fischer, and it was written when he was fifteen. It has historical significance as a prelude to the rest of the chess player's career. Within, Fischer analyses thirty-four games. He reflects on the experiences of thirteen games from the U.S. Championship Tournament of 1957-58 as well as the prize-winning "Game of the Century" from the Third Rosenwald Trophy Tournament. He also includes the scores of twenty games from the 1958 Portoroz Interzonal Tournament in which he played against Tal, Gligorich, Petrosyan, Bronstein, and more of the world's elite. The games in this book reveal Bobby Fischer's brilliance in middle and end-game strategy.
