Bill Walton (1952–2024) was an American basketball player whose career combined collegiate dominance with professional success in the NBA. At UCLA under coach John Wooden, Walton led the Bruins to two NCAA championships (1972, 1973) and was a three-time National Player of the Year, becoming one of the most celebrated college players in history. Selected first overall in the 1974 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers, he guided the team to an NBA championship in 1977 and was named league MVP in 1978. Although recurring injuries limited the length of his peak, Walton later won a second NBA title with the Boston Celtics in 1986 and was named Sixth Man of the Year.
