Exceedingly rare early printing of C.E. Kilbourne’s children’s classic. 12mo, original boards with illustrated label to the front panel, pictorial endpapers, numerous full-color plates by Hattie Longstreet. In very good condition. Ownership name to the half title page. Rare with no other copies of this 1920 edition listed at OCLC.
Charles E. Kilbourne was a United States Army officer who received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Philippine–American War. After WWI, he served as the Superintendent of the Virginia Military Institute and began his career as a children's book author. He authored An Army Boy in the Philippines, An Army Boy in Mexico, An Army Boy in Alaska, and the Baby Animal Stories which included Baby Elephant and the Zoo Man, Baby Ostrich and Mr. Wise Owl, and the present volume among 7 others.
