Atlas Shrugged.

RAND, Ayn.

Atlas Shrugged.

"If you saw Atlas, the giant who holds the world on his shoulders, if you saw that he stood, blood running down his chest, his knees buckling, his arms trembling but still trying to hold the world aloft with the last of his strength, and the greater his effort the heavier the world bore down upon his shoulders - What would you tell him?"

First edition. Octavo, original cloth. Inscribed and dated by the author. Publisher’s slip laid in. Some light rubbing to the bottom cloth, a near fine copy in a very good first issue dust jacket with 10/57 on the front flap. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. A nice copy of this landmark work.

The theme of Atlas Shrugged, as Rand described it, is "the role of man's mind in existence". The book explores a number of philosophical themes that Rand would subsequently develop into the philosophy of Objectivism. By 1984 more than five million copies of Atlas Shrugged had been sold, and in a 1991 Library of Congress survey Americans named it second only to the Bible as the book that had most influenced their lives.
