Aristophanes, often hailed as the "Father of Comedy," was an ancient Athenian playwright whose works provided biting social, political, and cultural critique through the lens of humor and satire. Active during the 5th century BCE, his eleven surviving comedies, including Lysistrata, The Clouds, and The Frogs, explore themes such as the absurdity of war, the corruption of political leaders, and the tensions between tradition and change. Aristophanes' plays are notable for their sharp wit, use of parody, and boldness in addressing controversial topics, often directly mocking prominent figures such as Socrates and Cleon.
