First Edition of American in Russia by Harrison Salisbury
First edition of this work by the legendary journalist. Octavo, original half cloth, cartographic endpapers, illustrated. Very good in a very good dust jacket.
American in Russia (1955) gathers Harrison Salisbury's observations from his years as the New York Times correspondent in Moscow between 1949 and 1954, among the bleakest and most secretive of the Stalin era. Salisbury reported from the Soviet Union through the final years of Stalin's rule, the dictator's death in 1953, and the uncertain months that followed, and his dispatches earned him the 1955 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting. One of the most distinguished American journalists of the twentieth century, he went on to write The 900 Days, his landmark history of the siege of Leningrad, and to report from Hanoi during the Vietnam War.
