After Hours is the second novel by Edwin Torres and the sequel to his acclaimed debut Carlito's Way, continuing the saga of the gangster Carlito Brigante through the neon-lit New York underworld of nightclubs, hustlers, and cops. Torres, the son of Puerto Rican immigrants who rose from Spanish Harlem to become a decorated New York State Supreme Court Justice, drew on decades of experience in the criminal courts to give his fiction its unmistakable authenticity and streetwise voice. Together, Carlito's Way and After Hours formed the basis for Brian De Palma's 1993 film Carlito's Way, in which Al Pacino played Brigante in one of the defining roles of his later career.
