First edition of this treatise examining the impact of physical terrain on military maneuvers and campaign outcomes in World War I. Octavo, original cloth with gilt titles to the spine, frontispiece. Illustrated with black and white photographs, diagrams, and maps. Signed four times by General George Smith Patton, Jr.: on the front cover "G S Patton Jr", on the top edge of the text block "PATTON", on the front free endpaper "G S Patton Jr Nov 3 1928", and on page 42 at the top left corner "G S P Jr". Pencil inscriptions on page 28 of, "BEF"; "4"; "5" within Figure 2 are also probably written by Patton. In very good condition condition. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box.
