First edition in English of Coelho's classic work, which has been translated into over 70 languages. Octavo, original half cloth. Association copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title page, "Annie, follow your dreams! Paulo Coelho." The recipient, fellow author Annie Dillard, has published works of poetry, essays, prose, and literary criticism, as well as two novels and one memoir. Her 1974 work Pilgrim at Tinker Creek won the 1975 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction and her books have been translated into at least ten languages. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. From the collection of Annie Dillard with her ownership plate to the front pastedown. Jacket design by Michele Wetherbee. Translated by Alan R. Clarke. An exceptional association.
