Athens: Δίφρος [Difros], 1955.
First edition in Greek of one of Kazantzakis’s most famous and controversial works, first published in a French translation in 1954. Octavo, bound in full cloth with a morocco spine label lettered in gilt, patterned endpapers. Presentation copy, inscribed by Nikos Kazantzakis in the year of publication on the third free endpaper, “Αντίνολη, 26-4-55 Τῇ ἀγαπητῇ φίλῃ ἀφοσίωσις Δ. Φωτιάδη Σε αγαπώ πολύ· δεν ξέρω πώς ώστε να συναντηθούμε… Τίποτε Ν. Καζαντζάκης” which translates as, “Antinoli [possibly Antibes/Italy], 26 April 1955 To my dear friend, with devotion, D. Fotiadi, I love you very much; I do not know how we might meet… Nothing more. Nikos Kazantzakis.” In near fine condition. Rare and desirable signed and inscribed by Kazantzakis.
