Rare 18th century printing of the Handel's Messiah as it was performed at the Theatre Royal in the Hay-Market. Ocravo, bound in contemporary wrappers. Handel composed Messiah in 1741. It was first performed in Dublin in 1742 and received its London premiere a year later. After an initially modest public reception, the oratorio gained in popularity, eventually becoming one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music. Housed in a custom half morocco and folding chemise slipcase.
