First edition, first printing of this classic work in L. Frank Baum’s celebrated Oz series, the last of the series to appear during Baum’s lifetime, as he passed away shortly before its release in 1919. First printing with the verso of the ownership page listing Baum titles through The Tin Woodman of Oz. Octavo, original publisher's full lime green cloth with pictorial label affixed to front board, spine stamped in black with "Reilly" of the publisher's imprint measuring 7/8 in., black-and-white pictorial endpapers, illustrated with frontispiece and 9 colored plates by John R. Neill. Signed by seven leading cast members from The Wizard of Oz (1939) film Judy Garland (1922-1969), Billie Burke (1884-1970), Ray Bolger (1904-1987), Frank Morgan (1890-1949), Bert Lahr (1895-1967), Margaret Hamilton (1902-1985), Jack Haley (1897-1979), and director Victor Fleming (1889-1949), additionally inscribed by Fleming on frontispiece verso. Quarto, original publisher's light blue cloth with large pictorial paper onlay to the front panel (Bienvenue and Schmidt's binding A), with the double horizontal rules stamped at top and bottom of spine and the publisher's imprint reading Reilly & Britton, all edges stained yellow, pictorial endpapers, illustrated with 12 full-color plates and numerous illustrations throughout by John R. Neill, publisher's advertisement on verso of ownership leaf listing ten titles as called for. Bienvenue and Schmidt pp. 70-71; Hanff & Greene XI. Very good in the rare original dust jacket with the spine panel imprint reading the same as on cloth. The dust jacket is in good condition.

Octavo, original publisher's pictorial light green cloth stamped in red and green, publisher’s imprint to the spine "Geo. M. Hill Co." stamped in sans-serif type, illustrated by W.W. Denslow with 24 color plates, illustrations in text, and on paste-downs (issued without endpapers). First state of text with misprints "low wail" on page 14, "pieces" on page 81, and "While Tin Woodman" on page 271. illustrated title in Blanck's state A with no copyright stamp at verso, the plate showing Dorothy holding Toto by the ear appears opposite page 12 instead of page 14, with plates opposite pp. 34 and 92 in the uncorrected first state, rear pastedown featuring the 11-line colophon enclosed in a decorative border; in Bienvenue & Schmidt's binding B. In very good condition, neat reinforcements, expertly restored and reinforced, gift inscription to the front free endpaper. A very sharp example.

Quarto, original publisher's light blue cloth (Bienvenue and Schmidt's binding C), pictorial label with metallic gold background to front board, illustrated endpapers printed in yellow and black, publisher's advertisement on half-title verso lists six titles, beginning with The Emerald City of Oz; 16 full-color plates without captions and numerous illustrations throughout by John R. Neill, the spine imprint reading "Reilly & Britton" and without silver embellishments to the Tin Woodman vignette. Bienvenue and Schmidt pp. 33-35; Hanff & Greene IV. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. The dust jacket is mixed state with the gold metallic background, rear panel advertising six titles, but both flaps blank. Very rare in the original dust jacket.

From the library of Dr. George D. Snell, with a gift inscription to him on the ownership leaf, "[This Book Belongs To] George D. Snell. And was given him by his Uncle George and Aunt Tirza 1912." A small, printed note laid in reads, "This Book came from the Library of Dr. George D. Snell and his wife Rhoda Carson Snell.
