  First edition of this classic work, "riveting from start to finish" (Robert Gottlieb, The New York Times). Octavo, original cloth, cartographic endpapers, pullout map. Association copy, inscribed by the author to his wife on the half-title page, "With love to Jane John May, 1947." The recipient, Jane Gunther was the recipient's wife. She became an editor at Duell, Sloan & Pearce, publishers. She traveled with him extensively and contributed to and helped edit his many books, including Inside Asia, Inside Africa and Inside Russia Today.  Very good in a very good dust  jacket. An exceptional association.
