First edition of this intimate, behind-the-scenes look at President Gerald R. Ford during his early days in office. Square octavo, original publisher's cloth with a vignette of the Whitehouse stamped in blind to the front panel, facsimile signature to the front free endpaper, profusely illustrated with black and white photographs from Ford's presidency. Lengthily signed by Ford on the title page with a quote from his August 9, 1974 speech on taking the presidency, "I have not campaigned either for the Presidency or the Vice Presidency. I am indebted to no man and only to one woman, my dear wife as I begin this very difficult job. My fellow Americans, Our long national nightmare is over. Our constitution works. Gerald R. Ford 9/21/80." Near fine in a very good unclipped dust jacket with a small loss to the foot of the spine. Text by Hugh Sidey. Photographs by Fred Ward. Jacket design by Bob Nemser.
