  Finely bound example of Vachon's biography of Detaille from the library of Edward VIII, Duke of Windsor. Folio, bound in three quarter morocco, illustrated. Presentation copy, inscribed by Edouard Detaille in French to Edward VIII, Duke of Windsor in the year of Detaille's death. The inscription translates as: "My Lord, In my Boulevard Malesherbes Studio, where his Majesty King Edward Vii and His Majesty King George have often come, your Royal Highness found himself at home. It is a great honor for me and also a great pleasure that I am happy to witness. Your Royal Highness, with the assurance of my faithful and respectful devotion. Edouard Detaille June 20 1912." The new king showed impatience with court protocol, and caused concern among politicians by his apparent disregard for established constitutional conventions.
