    First edition of the best contemporary account of the New York City Draft Week Riots, the largest civil urban disturbance in American history. Octavo, bound in three quarter morocco over marbled boards with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised bands, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers, with original printed paper wrappers. Barnes makes one manuscript correction to the text on page 6 where he amends the estimated amount of people killed during the riots from "four hundred to five hundred," to "two thousand." Association copy, inscribed by the author on the title page, "Fanny Fern' with comps. of David M. Barnes." The recipient, Fanny Fern was a children's writer, novelist, and newspaper columnist. In very good condition, bookplate of Charles George Moller Jr. to the front pastedown. Exceptionally rare and desirable signed.
