First edition of the author's first book. Octavo, original cloth. Translated from the Spanish by Magda Bogin. Association copy, inscribed by the author on the title page, "For Annie, 'Barrabas came to us by sea, the child Clara Wrote in her delicate calligraphy' Isabel Allende." Allende has also drawn a flower on the title page. The recipient, fellow author Annie Dillard has published works of poetry, essays, prose, and literary criticism, as well as two novels and one memoir. Her 1974 work Pilgrim at Tinker Creek won the 1975 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction and her books have been translated into at least ten languages. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket.
