"IT IS DIFFICULT TO GET A MAN TO UNDERSTAND SOMETHING, WHEN HIS SALARY DEPENDS ON HIS NOT UNDERSTANDING IT": FIRST EDITION OF UPTON SINCLAIR'S THE MONEYCHANGERS; IN THE RARE ORIGINAL DUST JACKET
First edition. Octavo, original cloth. Near fine in the rare original first issue dust jacket with light rubbing to the extremities and unnecessary tape reinforcement to the verso. Extremely rare in the original dust jacket.
The Financial Panic of 1907 is often cited as a justification for the passage of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913. The Money Changers is Upton Sinclair's fictionalized account of the affair, and in the novel a character based on J.P. Morgan is lauded for rescuing everyone from a crisis that he created.
