Gaudier-Brzeska: A Memoir is Ezra Pound's tribute to Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, the astonishingly gifted French sculptor who, with Pound and Wyndham Lewis, was a leading figure of Vorticism, the short-lived English avant-garde movement of the years before the First World War. Gaudier was killed in the trenches in 1915 at the age of twenty-three, and Pound, who had been his friend and champion, wrote this book the following year to preserve his memory and his ideas, gathering Gaudier's own writings on sculpture alongside reproductions of his work. First published in 1916, it remains one of the essential documents of modernism and of the Vorticist moment, and this edition, issued by the Marvell Press in 1960, adds new material by Pound. Ezra Pound was one of the most influential and controversial poets of the twentieth century, the driving force behind Imagism and Vorticism and the author of the epic Cantos.
