Flora des Sudens. [Flora of the South.]

Flora des Südens is a richly illustrated botanical study of the plant life of Insubria, the mild lake region embracing the southern Ticino and Graubünden of Switzerland and the great lakes of northern Italy from Maggiore to Garda. Written by Carl Schröter, one of the most eminent botanists of his generation and long a professor of botany at the ETH in Zürich, the book combines a scientific survey of the region's native and cultivated plants with an excursion guide for the naturalist traveler. Schröter was a pioneering figure in the study of plant ecology and geobotany, and his works were celebrated for uniting rigorous scholarship with a deep love of the Alpine and sub-Alpine landscape.
