Promethee aux Enfers. [Prometheus in the Underworld.]

Prométhée aux Enfers, written in 1946, is a short lyrical essay by Albert Camus that would later be gathered into his collection L'Été. Taking the chained figure of Prometheus, the Titan who stole fire from the gods for the sake of humankind, as an emblem of revolt and endurance, Camus meditates on what it means to keep faith with both justice and beauty in an age of catastrophe. Albert Camus, one of the towering figures of twentieth-century literature and a leading voice of absurdist and existential thought, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1957, becoming one of the youngest laureates in the history of the prize.
