One of only sixty numbered copies printed for private circulation, this is number 18. Boldly signed by Robert Murdoch Lawrance on the limitation page and dated 6 October 1925. In very good condition with sunning to the spine and front panels. With an introduction by J. M. Bulloch. Accompanied by newspaper clippings and letters about the family throughout. Rare.
A Branch of the Aberdeenshire Lawrances is a meticulous work of family history by Robert Murdoch Lawrance, a member of the Scottish History Society and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Beginning, as its author put it, at zero, the book reconstructs in minute detail the descendants of John Lawrance of Barnyards of Philorth (1667 to 1724), following the family's merchants, farmers, shipmasters, and emigrants from the fishing towns of the Aberdeenshire coast to Melbourne, Toronto, and around the world. In his introduction the genealogist J. M. Bulloch praises the author's amazing industry, observing that the man who has hardly any spare time at all is the man who has time to do everything.
