First Edition of 7 O'Clock & I Wanna Rock: Works on Paper; Bernie Taupin's Rare Privately Printed Volume of Visual Art, Signed by the Elton John Lyricist
First edition of this exceptionally rare privately printed volume of original visual art by Bernie Taupin, the celebrated lyricist behind Elton John's greatest songs, created to mark the fifty years of their legendary partnership. Square quarto, publisher's illustrated boards, illustrated throughout in color, with a glossy print laid in. Boldly signed by Bernie Taupin on the front free endpaper. Produced by Taupin himself in what appears to be a very small number through Shutterfly, the book gathers his own artworks reinterpreting the couplets and choruses of hits such as I Want Love, Tiny Dancer, Saturday Night's Alright, and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and opens with a heartfelt printed letter from Taupin dated 2018 and signed off from somewhere along the Yellow Brick Road. In fine condition.
Bernie Taupin is the English lyricist who, in one of the most successful and enduring partnerships in the history of popular music, has written the words to nearly all of Elton John's songs since 1967. Together they created an unbroken run of classics, from Your Song and Rocket Man to Tiny Dancer, Candle in the Wind, and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and Taupin shared in the Academy Award and countless other honors that followed. In his later years Taupin has devoted himself increasingly to the visual arts, exhibiting his paintings and assemblages internationally. This volume was created as Elton John embarked on his farewell world tour, a personal act of reflection in which Taupin translated the songs of their fifty-year collaboration into works of art.
