Duodecimo, bound in full early tree calf with an elaborate gilt-decorated spine, illustrated with two folding engraved plates. In very good condition with wear to the extremities, lacking the map.
History of the Greek Revolution is one of the earliest American histories of the Greek War of Independence, compiled by John Lee Comstock, a prolific Hartford physician and author of popular works on science and history. Drawing on official documents of the Greek provisional government and the reports of British observers, Comstock published his account in 1828 while the war was still raging and American sympathy for the Greek cause was at its height. The struggle of the Greeks to throw off Ottoman rule stirred deep philhellenic feeling across the United States and Europe, drawing the support of figures from Lord Byron to Daniel Webster.
