Self to Self (1928) is a poem by Walter de la Mare, one of the most admired English poets of the twentieth century, celebrated for the delicate music and haunting strangeness of such poems as The Listeners and for his enchanting verse for children in Peacock Pie. De la Mare received the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for his novel Memoirs of a Midget and was later appointed to the Order of Merit and made a Companion of Honour, and his work has never lost its spell over readers drawn to the mysterious and the otherworldly.
