Presentation copy, warmly inscribed the author on the front free endpaper, "For Walter Shirley- All best and shine on!...Stephen King 9/24/80" and by actor Academy Award-winning actor Jack Nicholson on the front free endpaper. Additionally signed by dust jacket illustrator Dave Christensen on the front panel and rear flap of the dust jacket. Nicholson starred as Jack Torrance in the 1980 Stanley Kubrick film bearing the same name. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest horror films ever made. Nicholson is one of four male actors to win three Academy Awards and one of only two actors to be nominated for an Academy Award for acting in films made in every decade from the 1960s to the 2000s (the other is Michael Caine). His 12 Academy Award nominations make him the most nominated male actor in the Academy's history. He was honored with the AFI Life Achievement Award in 1994, the Cecil B. His motion picture work includes the poster designs for such films as Driving Miss Daisy, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Major League, Casper, and Pan's Labyrinth, among many others.
