Boldly signed by Pulitzer Prize-winning authors Annie Proulx and Larry McMurtry on the title page. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Rare signed by both Proulx and McMurtry.
Close Range: Wyoming Stories is Annie Proulx’s acclaimed first collection of short fiction set in Wyoming, where she had recently made her home. The volume gathers eleven stories of hardscrabble ranch and frontier life and contains the first book appearance of “Brokeback Mountain,” the story of two ranch hands and their decades-long love affair, which won the O. Henry Award and a National Magazine Award and became the basis for Ang Lee’s Academy Award-winning 2005 film. Proulx, already celebrated for her Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award-winning novel The Shipping News, renders the harshness and beauty of the western landscape in spare, muscular prose. The first edition is distinguished by six full-page color watercolors by the Western artist William Matthews.
