Andromeda and Other Poems (1858) by Charles Kingsley is a poetic collection anchored by its title narrative, a retelling of the Greek myth in which Perseus rescues Andromeda from sacrifice to a sea monster. Composed in classical hexameters, “Andromeda” reflects Kingsley’s engagement with heroic myth while infusing it with Victorian moral and spiritual concerns, particularly themes of redemption, faith, and the tension between human pride and divine power. The volume also includes poems such as “The Three Fishers” and “The Sands of Dee,” which combine lyrical description of the natural world with social awareness and emotional intensity.
