Priest’s most famous works include The Inverted World (1974), the interconnected “Dream Archipelago” series, and The Prestige (1995), which was adapted into the 2006 Academy Award nominee film of the same name by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson, and Michael Caine.
Often referred to as the "father of science fiction", along with Jules Verne and Hugo Gernsback, English writer H.G. Wells was prolific in many genres, publishing dozens of novels and novellas in addition to treatises on social commentary, history, and two books on recreational war games. 'The Wife of Sir Isaac Harman' (1914) tells the story of Lady Harman, a young woman trapped in an oppressive marriage to a wealthy but domineering businessman. Over the course of the novel, she gradually awakens to her own intellectual and emotional independence, influenced by her encounters with progressive thinkers and social reformers.
