Early printing of the poet’s debut volume. Octavo, original wrappers. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title page, “To Bro Richard – Health/Peace/Freedom – Etheridge Knight.” In very good condition.
African-American poet Etheridge Knight made his name in 1968 with his debut volume, Poems from Prison. The book recalls in verse his eight-year-long sentence after his arrest for robbery in 1960 and contains odes to Malcolm X, Dinah Washington, Langston Hughes, and Gwendolyn Brooks.
