Two page handwritten letter dated June 1, 1946. "Madame: Monseigneur: -Oh, I wish I could. -Not only do you give wonderful parties, but you make all who attend them feel party: everyone is raided above himself into a mood which is at once relaxed and festival. -I’ll be thinking of you. As I told you Isabel’s return now releases me to seek a hideaway. Tuesday I am going to Saratoga Springs to really work- a split ______ above can express my determination. I’d have gone last week but for the chance that the Oliviers would be coming here and sure enough they are coming Sunday afternoon after a broadcast and returning to New York for Monday evening’s performance. (It is probably an impertinence for us to ask such a hard pressed and tired prince of the theatre as Larry and such an exquisite and delicately ? angel as Vivien to our little chalet; but we love them and love must eke out the exuities (in all innocence I wrote that word; now I look it up in the dictionaries and find that it doesn’t exist!- I meant limitations and lax). (Oh yes, exiquities- pardon me.) May you long, long be happy. May I long, long be the occasional visitant on that happiness. May I be the partial historian of that happiness. Many many people are indebted to you for the qualities of your self which you have extended in these first 104 years; who could guess the number of them, who will feel the better for having known you in those to come.
