Signed Limited Editions Of President Eisenhowers Mandate For Change and The White House Years: Waging Peace 1956-1961; both volumes inscribed by Eisenhower to Arthur Sulzberger
Signed limited first editions of Eisenhower's memoirs, each one of 1500 copies. Two volumes, thick octavo, original tan cloth with green morocco spine labels lettered in gilt, cartographic endpapers. One of 1500 numbered copies signed by the author, both volumes are number 255. Association copies, in addition to the limitation signature, Mandate For Change is inscribed by Eisenhower to Arthur Sulzberger on the limitation page, "For Arthur Sulzberger with the affectionate regard of his old friend Dwight D. Eisenhower 1963." Waging Peace is inscribed two years later, "For Arthur Sulzberger with the warm regard of his devoted friend Dwight D. Eisenhower 1965." An exceptional set of presentation copies of the deluxe issue of Eisenhower‘s memoirs, addressed to the publisher of the New York Times from 1935 to 1961. Sulzberger was the central figure in American newspaper publishing over that period, and the Times would go on to endorse Eisenhower during his two Presidential campaigns, the last Republican to be endorsed by them. Fine in the original acetate dust jackets and original slipcases which are in fine condition. Scarce with both volumes sharing identical numbers, in addition to the exceptional condition and association.
This is the story of President Eisenhowers first administration. Dwight D. Eisenhower, one of the major figures of the twentieth century, writes an account of the events, as he saw them, leading up to a sweeping mandate, and then pursues the theme of change in the years 1953-1956
