Editor Morris Cargill notes that Fleming “wanted, he said, a book written about Jamaica by Jamaicans and by those who, while not Jamaicans, had lived there and had like him learned to love the country.” Fleming, who died a year before the publication of this book, built his house “Goldeneye,” where he wrote his James Bond novels, on Jamaica’s northern coast. Includes chapters on dialect and religion, notable houses, natural history, birds, literature, contemporary art. skin diving, and cuisine, as well as appendices on organizing a business, driving licenses, and passports and visas.
