Framed Double-Sided Leaf from Medieval Psalter: Psalms 24 and 19.

Northern France or Flemish, visible area measures 6.25 inches by 4.25 inches, matted so that both sides are visible; frame measures 11.5 inches by 9.5 inches. Lovely leaf with elaborate floral decorations and gold illumination and rubricated initial letters. One side has the first 3 1/2 lines of the 24th Psalm, "Domini est terra, et plenitudo ejus; orbis terrarum, et universi qui habitant in eo. Quia ipse super maria fundavit eum, et super flumina præparavit eum. Quis ascendet in montem Domini? aut quis stabit in loco sancto ejus? Innocens manibus et ..." (King James version: The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands..." The other side has lines from the end of Psalm 19: "Desiderabilia super aurum et lapidem pretiosum multum; et dulciora super mel et favum. Etenim servus tuus custodit ea; in custodiendis illis retributio multa. Delicta quis intelligit? ab occultis meis munda me; et ab alienis parce servo tuo. Si mei non fuerint dominati, tunc immaculatus ero, et emundabor a delicto maximo. Et erunt ut complaceant eloquia oris mei, et meditatio" KJV: "More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
