"It was a Pleasure!": Rare Cat in the Hat Print; inscribed by Dr. Seuss
Rare illustrated print of Dr. Seuss’s signature children’s book character. Color print of the Cat in the Hat. Boldly inscribed by Dr. Seuss [Theodor Geisel], “Dear Chuck Meeks...I'll be very happy to autograph your books. Just mail them along with an addressed and stamped book-mailer T.S. Geisel." In fine condition with mail folds. With the original envelope, addressed in holograph. The piece measures 5.75 inches by 8.5 inches. Accompanied by a typed letter from Hope Koturo, editor for Random House Books for Young Readers, to C.M. Meeks. One page, Random House stationery, New York, 22 July 1983. The letter reads in full, "Dear Mr. Meeks: Your letter of July 6th has been referred to me. Dr. Seuss has requested that Random House respond to all his fan mail as it is not possible for him to answer all his correspondence personally. Also, it is against company policy to give our authors' addresses. I hope this clarifies the matter. Sincerely, Hope Koturo." In very good condition. The piece also measures 5.75 inches by 8.5 inches.

"The Cat in the Hat was so successful that Random House, publisher of all the Dr. Seuss books since 1937, created a special division, Beginner Books, with the Cat in the Hat as the logo and Dr. Seuss as president of the division" (Dr. Seuss from Then to Now, 45). "This extraordinary writer has done more to foster literacy in children than most because he manages to combine lunacy with sanity, fun with learning, and quality with exuberant readability" (Joseph Connolly). It was the basis for the 2003 film starring Mike Myers in the title role of the Cat in the Hat, and Dakota Fanning as Sally.
